FRIDAY 23 APRIL 2021
From the Principal
Dear families,
It was exciting to welcome back our students and families to Term 2! Students were keen to share their stories from the Easter break and reconnect with their friends and staff.
This week, the return to school after the Easter break flows into ANZAC Day remembrance services. Both holidays are built upon tragedy, yet both speak to us as people of hope. We do not celebrate Easter because of Jesus’ death - we celebrate it because of Christ's resurrection. Equally, we do not commemorate ANZAC day for the sacrifices of our armed services, rather for the celebration of the human spirit.
I invite families to join with me and some of our student leaders as they lay a wreath in honour those who have lost their lives serving Australia in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations; particularly those members associated with St Mary’s Parish. We will meet at the Soldiers Memorial next to the Town Hall at 9:50am. Don’t forget to register your attendance via the Ararat RSL website arararsl.com.au and comply with COVID regulations.
Lest we forget.
Congratulations to Louise Wilson (nee Allan) and Zach who celebrated their wedding over the school holidays. They have been unwinding in the Yarra Valley this week and Louise is eager to return to the 1/2 classroom next week and continue the great learning that has been happening in that space.
STAFFING UPDATE
We welcome Luke Preston, father of Isabelle (grade 2) and Amelia (foundation) to our staff team. Luke will work in the role of Grounds and Maintenance for the 2021 school year. Luke comes to us with a wealth of experience in carpentry, building and maintenance. We are very much looking forward to working collaboratively with Luke to spruce up our school grounds and buildings.
The depth, breath and commitment of the St Mary’s staff team is incredible. I congratulate the following staff on these appointments;
Religious Education Leader: Louise Allan
Assistant to the Principal/Child Safety Officer: Toni Stockwell
Risk and Compliance: Ben O’Loughlan
Every blessing,
Roxanne
