ST MARY'S GARDEN CLUB NEWS

The Garden Club group is a group of Grade 5 & 6 children who do a wonderful job looking after the garden during lunch time. They mainly grow vegetables and succulents.

Recently we received a Woolworth grant for $750 towards the Garden Club activities.  This will help them become familiar with growing more vegetables (and I believe strawberries are a high priority!)  There is also money for a composting unit.

The children will also become familiar with writing requests for donations and writing thank you letters.

On Wednesday, the group put the new garden beds together. Thursday was quite exciting as they received a donation of sandy loam and potting mix to fill the garden beds. This was donated by Graeme McKay Earthworks, who have a sand and soil business as well. The garden club group then got extra help from some of the other Grade 5 & 6 students - this is one of the quickest ways I know to unload a trailer full of dirt.

REQUEST FOR STRAWBERRY PLANTS/RUNNERS

The Garden Club knows the best time to plant strawberries is early September - does anyone have a few strawberry runners or plants they could donate to the Garden Club?  Phone the school office 53521796 and leave a message for Helen Kirkpatrick

It has been an amazing couple of weeks at the St Mary's Olympics, with all students contributing to their countries' points totals!

After today the point totals are:
Canada - 559
France - 550
Argentina & Sweden - 484
South Africa - 472

Next week is the final week for JLC and MLC to score points for their countries (SLC is away on camp). 
On Friday the winners will be announced in the Hub at 2:30pm.

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held in Week 6 of this term, on Tuesday 20th August and Thursday 22nd August from 3.30pm - 6pm. Bookings are now open on PAM. Interviews are conducted for 10 minutes. We encourage students to come along. Please arrive a few minutes before your interview time. If you are having any issues booking online, please contact the office so that we can book in a time that suits you.
