From our Principal

Dear families,

The emphasis on the ongoing journey of reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, acknowledging past injustices and the need for healing and progress was a focus in Learning Communities and prayer this week.

The importance for all Australians to learn with and from our First Nations people, to acknowledge truth telling, promote mutual respect, dignity for the human person and increase collaboration for a better future for all. As a Church community we need to be a beacon of equality and hope, working to eliminate division and promote unity.

We continue to make headway on preparing our learning spaces for our upcoming building project. At this stage we are still planning to have demolition works happening in the term break. Our staff team has been moving and packing away resources and clearing spaces in order for the decanting of classrooms, office spaces and other areas. If any parents are able to pop in at any stage between now and the end of term to pack a box or two that would be greatly appreciated.

Every blessing,

Roxanne

National Simultaneous Story Time with Ararat ELC & JLC

This month we had the four-year-old kinder students from Ararat Early Learning Centre join our Junior Learning Community for National Simultaneous Story Time. We read the story Bowerbird Blues and made a bower and bowerbirds. What a fabulous experience for everyone involved!

In this edition of SchoolTV: Resilience

Resilience is one of those skills that all kids - and adults - need! It refers to the ability to cope and adapt in situations when confronted with challenges such as adversity, trauma, tragedy, or even stress. Resilience is essential to good mental health and wellbeing as part of the journey to adulthood. It is a skill that can be learned from an early age through the support of an adult role model.

Being resilient does not mean your child won't experience any difficulties, but it will better equip them to manage challenging situations. Over-protective parenting can be unhelpful in the building of resilience: although this may be a natural instinct, potentially experiencing failure is all part of the learning process. Encouraging children to take healthy risks will help them trust their capacity to deal with uncomfortable situations and increase their capacity for courage.

In this edition of SchoolTV the video resources aim to help families gain an understanding of how to support their child’s brave behaviour - helping them adapt when life throws tricky situations their way.

We hope you are able to take some time to check out the videos and other resources in this edition of SchoolTV.

If you have any concerns about how your child is tackling different situations, please contact your child’s class teacher. Here is the link to the Resilience edition of SchoolTV.
