Term 1 Week 7
Dear Families,
Year 3 and Year 5 students commenced NAPLAN testing this week. This is an annual test for students in Australia, and it provides a snapshot of student proficiency in literacy and numeracy. It is one of several different forms of assessment we refer to, but it is important to be aware of what it doesn’t assess, as much as what it does assess. We remind our students (and our parents) that NAPLAN data will let us know how our students performed on the day, but it won’t tell us everything.
NAPLAN will not provide data about our students’ creativity, or their innovative thinking abilities. It won’t shine a light on all of the things that make each student unique and special – such as artistic talent, sporting prowess or character skills like resilience, leadership and teamwork. The people who assess NAPLAN don’t get to see how our students engage with each other, or how they support their friends, or whether our students have a growth mindset. We know our Year 3 and 5 students will do their best on this one test, and we also know it isn’t actually possible to test everything that makes our students special.
Shortly, we will be advertising enrolments for 2025. We are proud of the growth that our school has made in recent years and we are keen to celebrate the high levels of learning that is occurring in all areas of F-6. Next year we are offering ‘FREE TUITION’ for all new families enrolling in our school. That’s a saving of $1300 (approx). We hope that this is an enticing incentive for students to join our community in 2025, not only in Foundation, but in other year levels too. There will also be a fee deduction of $230 (approx) for siblings of existing families within the school starting in 2025!
Every blessing for the week ahead.
Roxanne
Well Done to our Black Ranges Swimmers
Our swimming squad of 10 had a terrific day recently at the Black Ranges swimming carnival, with 5 of our students individually, as well as our medley relay team, qualifying for the next stage - the Greater Western Region swimming carnival in Horsham.
Well done to Izabelle, Eva, Libby, Loella, Ari, Ella and Zebina on their efforts. The girls will now compete at regional level next Friday March 22nd.
A great effort!
