From our Principal

Dear Families,

“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.”
- Albert Einstein

We thank you, God,
For the wisdom and knowledge you bestow upon scientists who work at revealing the secrets of creation.
We stand in awe and wonder at the history of the universe and of life on this planet.
Bless those engaged in scientific research and technology that will enhance human life and the wellbeing of all.
Guide us to always have open and
curious minds and to be stewards of creation.

Amen

SCIENCE WEEK

This week we have celebrated Science Week. Science is all about curiosity, being inquisitive and having a sense of wonder. A curious person constantly asks questions and desires to know more. Scientific minds seek explanations and employ creativity to find solutions. These are strengths we aim to cultivate in our students. At school we offer Science as a subject specialisation in which students apply scientific principles when they explore, discover, challenge and problem solve. They learn about how science responds to global challenges and societal needs as well as areas such as chemical science, biology, geology and sustainability.

Wouldn’t it have been amazing to meet someone like Albert Einstein? If his biography notes are accurate, he was not only super-curious, but practical, generous, open-minded, community-minded and a nature-lover. Born in 1879, he is best known for developing the theory of relativity, often referred to as the world’s most famous equation. Albert Einstein would definitely make my ‘ultimate dinner party’ list!

Over the next few weeks our senior students will be leading scientific experiments and demonstrations during lunch time. This has been a culmination of the learning that has taken place during weekly Science classes about chemical reactions. From cake making to explosions to observations about water quality, our students are applying their scientific learning in purposeful ways.  Well done to Lisa who has supported the students in this learning.

BOOK WEEK

Next week is Book Week – the fun never stops! Students are asked to come dressed as a book character on Friday (25th August). We will have a parade in the Multi-Purpose Room at 9am. Families are invited to come along and get involved…or just watch! Following the parade students will split into different classes and explore some of the shortlisted books in more detail. If any parents, guardians or grandparents would like to volunteer in classrooms that morning we would love to have you. Please contact the office if you would like to help out and ensure we have your Working With Children Check on file.

Every blessing for the week ahead.

Roxanne
